Background
Our Vision
Our Royal Charter says our mission is to “Advance education, scholarship, knowledge and understanding by teaching and research, for the benefit of individuals and society at large”. We interpret our mission in a modern context with a renewed focus on excellence in learning, teaching, research and enterprise, a transformative student experience and being an internationally-engaged anchor institution for our surrounding regions.
Our vision is to be recognised for academic excellence that empowers people to shape the future. Our ambitions are bold and challenging – we’ll pursue our vision with a determination to exceed expectations, to contribute ever greater outcomes towards shaping a better world, and to encourage our students to strive for excellence.
Research
The last Research Excellence Framework named University of Hull as a top 50 institution for research power in the UK. And our work improves lives globally. Every day.
We believe that identifying and solving some of the world’s most pressing challenges are central to a university’s function. Our current research portfolio spans everything from health to habitats, food to flooding and supply chains to slavery. Every piece of thought-provoking, game-changing work does positive things for our community, our environment and our future.
Hull’s location, at the centre of the UK, is 200 miles from London, Edinburgh and Rotterdam, making it an important hub for trade and industry.
The University has Research Institutes focused on a number of focus areas, including Energy and Environment, Maritime and Marine and Logistics and Supply Chain. These focus areas not only reflect the industries and opportunities that are closest to us in the region, they produce leading research and collaborations that tackle challenges across these sectors, across the globe.
